The Institute of Physics offers four graduate programs:
The Master’s program in Physics and the Ph.D. in Physics are oriented to graduates in Physics, Astronomy, Engineering, and related degrees. These programs provide solid training in both Theoretical and Experimental Physics, to train high-level researchers capable of impacting the development of science, industry, and the knowledge society, nationally and internationally.
The Master’s program in Medical Physics is an academic and interdisciplinary nature and is intended for students with a Bachelor’s degree in Physics, Astronomy, Engineering, and related degrees. This program provides solid training in the physical fundamentals of radiation therapy and diagnostic imaging. In addition, it focuses on developing competencies in pre-clinical or clinical research and applying new technologies for the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of human diseases. Thus, graduates can join interdisciplinary teams and offer solutions to problems and needs that arise in the medical sciences practice.
The Doctoral Program in Engineering and Technology is a new program seeks to connect research with the real needs of industry, the public sector, and civil organizations through applied research and technological development.

See graduate coursesApply here for the graduate programs of the Institute of Physics (Master’s in Physics, Ph.D. in Physics or Master’s in Medical Physics).
To apply to the Master’s in Physics and Master’s in Medical Physics programs, you must pay an application fee. Please ask for the cost of the application fee by writing to postgrado.fisica@uc.cl.
The application to the Ph.D. program in Physics, in turn, is free.
You can see the annual fee for each program in the following links:

Master’s in Medical Physics: https://admision.uc.cl/postgrado/magister/magister-en-fisica-medica/
Ph.D. in Physics: https://doctorados.uc.cl/program/doctoral-program-in-physics/
The application fee for the Master’s in Physics and Master’s in Medical Physics programs can be paid at the University Hall of the Central Campus, at the University Hall of the San Joaquin Campus, or through the online portal, following the instructions in the following link
The annual tuition fee is paid in 10 installments, between March and December of each year.
During the first year of studies, when enrolling in the respective graduate program, a registration fee must be paid, which corresponds to the first of the 10 installments of the annual tuition fee for that year.
Depending on the graduate program you wish to enter, you can apply for the National Doctorate or National Master’s scholarships granted by the National Agency for Research and Development (ANID). For more information on the application rules and deadlines for both scholarships, visit anid.cl, Concursos > Capital Humano.
For doctoral students who are not awarded the ANID National Doctoral Scholarship, but who fall within the competition rules, they can apply for the scholarship granted by the Vice-Rectory for Research (VRI) of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile.
Both the ANID scholarships and the VRI scholarship provide a monthly stipend and a waiver of the annual tuition fee for the study program. The Institute of Physics does not offer maintenance grants. However, those students who do not have an external scholarship may apply for a reduction of up to 90% of the annual tuition fee, granted by the Institute of Physics.
If you are a foreigner and wish to enter the Ph.D. program in Physics, you can apply for the ANID National Ph.D. Scholarship.
If you wish to enter the Master’s program in Physics or Master’s in Medical Physics, in order to apply for the National Master’s scholarship granted by ANID you must be a permanent resident in Chile.

There is no age limit to apply for the graduate programs of the Institute of Physics.
Admission to any of the graduate programs requires a Bachelor’s degree in Physics or its equivalent. This degree corresponds to approximately five years of university studies in Mathematics and Physics.
If you completed your undergraduate studies abroad, you must present a certificate or a transcript of grades issued by your home institution clearly indicating the scale used, specifying minimum grade, maximum grade and minimum passing grade. The above also applies to those who have completed their undergraduate studies in a Chilean institution that uses a grading scale different from the Chilean standard grading system (i.e., from 1 to 7, where 4 is the minimum passing grade).
If you completed your undergraduate studies in a country that is part of the Hague Apostille Convention, you must apostille the degree certificate and/or official diploma issued by the university of origin.
To find out where to get an apostille, you can contact the Ministry of Education or the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the country of your undergraduate university.
Letters should be written by academics and researchers who know the applicant and can attest to his or her research skills.
All graduate programs require exclusive dedication on the part of the students. The courses are in the daytime and on-site.
Both the Ph.D. program and the two Master’s programs are currently accredited by the National Accreditation Commission (CNA). This makes it possible for its students to apply for national and international scholarships.
The Institute of Physics is located at the San Joaquín Campus of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, Avenida Vicuña Mackenna 4860, Macul, Santiago.
The first semester runs from March to mid-July. The second semester runs from August to mid-December.
