Bachelor’s Degree in Physics

The program aims to develop people with solid scientific knowledge in the area of Physics, capable of behaving with responsibility and professional ethics.

school Academic Degree: Bachelor's Degree in Physics

About this degree

Graduates are experts in Physics, both theoretical and experimental. A particular hallmark of the UC Physics degree is that students complement their theoretical training with experimental training in equipment, techniques and measurement concepts in science during all years of the program. In these laboratory classes, students not only work on the techniques and concepts of physics, but also work on the development of projects and ideas that complement their training as future scientists.

The degree includes the fundamental subjects of Physics and a solid background in advanced mathematics, allowing graduates to apply this knowledge to problem solving, complemented with mathematical physics tools and computational methods. Also, with the acquired tools, graduates are able to learn the operation of new instruments and state-of-the-art technologies.

The knowledge acquired allows them to join graduate programs anywhere in the world, both in Physics and in related fields such as Astronomy, Engineering, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biophysics, Earth Sciences, among others. Also, graduates can complete pedagogical studies through the UC Pedagogical Training for Graduates program.

Acerca de la carrera

Curriculum

You will receive in-depth scientific training, with a solid foundation in Mathematics and Physics. The latter includes the initial round of Mechanics, Thermodynamics, Electricity and Magnetism, Optics, Waves and Modern Physics, to then continue with the final round that includes Quantum Mechanics, Statistical Mechanics and a series of elective courses that allow you to specialize in some particular areas of Physics.

The Bachelor’s Degree stands out for its strong and complete training in Physics, with courses dedicated to acquiring the transversal competencies to carry out experimental, theoretical, or applied research in other areas of knowledge. During the last semester, the student performs an undergraduate internship, which corresponds to a research work supervised by a professor.

Why study Physics at UC?

The UC Institute of Physics stands out because all  its professors have Ph.D. degrees awarded by top-notch institutions and are active researchers recognized in the international scientific community, both in Experimental Physics and Theoretical Physics.

Within the Institute, research is carried out in a wide range of areas of Physics, such as: High Energy (Particle), Nonlinear Mathematical Physics, Medical Physics, Plasma Physics, Condensed Matter, and Quantum Optics.

Students can actively participate in research work during their undergraduate studies, supported by a modern infrastructure, among which the Experimental Physics laboratories, the teaching and scientific research laboratories, and the Gauss Library stand out.

What can I work in?

The Bachelor’s Degree in Physics allows you to work in public or private research institutes or universities in any country in the world and maintain contact with the scientific community. You can also pursue a Pedagogical Training Program, or enter the world of work in high-tech industries, consulting on the optimization and innovation of industrial processes, or in the planning, development, and evaluation of projects related to the area.
