Post-Doctoral position in Theoretical Condensed Matter Physics

Ins. Fisica-07

A joint research initiative between Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, Universidad de Chile and Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María, under the grant ANID PIA ACT192023, is actively recruiting a post-doctoral researcher in theoretical condensed matter physics. The ACT192023, entitled “Light-Matter Interactions in Topological Nanomaterials: Towards low-consumption Information Technology” is a joint theoretical-experimental effort to set the basis for novel schemes of quantum computing in quantum materials such as topological insulators. It is highly desirable for the candidate to possess proved research experience in at least one of the following subjects: Graphene, Topological Materials, NV-Centers and Quantum Optics. Experience with quantum field theory methods and/or ab-initio calculations is highly desirable.

Through the Grant, a 12 month contract is guaranteed, starting in August 1st, 2021. In addition, a three year extension is possible, subject to the success of the candidate to apply to the Fondecyt Postdoctoral Fellowship  Program in July – September 2021. The position will be based at Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, in Santiago, but the selected candidate is also expected to interact with the experimental team at Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María, in Valparaíso. The offered salary is 1845000 chilean peso per month.

Interested candidates please send an e-mail to Dr. Enrique Muñoz, postdocmt@fis.uc.cl, with the subject “Postdoc ACT192023” and including the following information, no later than March 15th, 2021:

1.- Curriculum Vitae, including a detailed list of publications and an abstract of their Doctoral Thesis research

2.- A copy (.pdf format) of the Doctoral degree certificate, as well as previous academic degrees

2.- A research statement within the subject of the ACT192023 project

3.- Two reference letters, to be sent directly by the recommending faculty to Dr. E. Muñoz at the e-mail address indicated above

4.- The candidates who are pre-selected in the short list, will be requested for a personal interview (by Skype) with the search committee (within March 15th and March 31th, 2020)

Important dates:

Applications will receive full consideration until March 15th, 2021. The shortlisted candidates will be requested for an interview by Skype between March 15th and March 31th. Results of the selection process will be communicated after April 1th, 2021.
